VE Day 80 Celebrations

In commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, Home Instead branches across Wirral, Chester, and South Liverpool hosted a series of touching celebrations that brought together clients, Care Professionals, and local community members for music, memories, and reflection.
Each event served as a heartfelt tribute to the wartime generation, honouring their sacrifices while fostering connection and community spirit across the region.
In Chester, Home Instead partnered with Vicars Cross Community Centre on 9 May to welcome over 70 guests for a nostalgic afternoon of traditional refreshments, wartime songs performed by Olivia Schofield, and shared stories from the era. Many attendees dressed in vintage clothing, creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with singalongs and poignant memories.
Meanwhile, Home Instead South Liverpool hosted its celebration at their new Tapton Way office on 13 May. The event featured more performances by Olivia Schofield, sparking conversations about life during the war and the significance of VE Day, as guests enjoyed delicious food and the warm company of others.
The VE Day festivities began in Wirral on 8 May, where the Prenton office welcomed clients and Care Professionals for an afternoon of camaraderie and reflection. The Heswall Strummers led rousing singalongs, while a particularly moving moment came when three RAF veteran pilots met for the first time, sharing powerful stories of their wartime service.
Reflecting on the celebrations across the three locations, Head of Business Operations , Mary Costello-Smith said "These events were truly special. From singing wartime songs to hearing our clients share their personal memories of VE Day, each gathering was filled with warmth, gratitude, and reflection. To see our clients, Care Professionals, and communities come together like this is humbling — and a true reflection of what Home Instead is all about."
These VE Day 80 celebrations not only honoured a momentous point in history but also showcased Home Instead’s ongoing commitment to creating meaningful, engaging experiences that bring joy, dignity, and connection to the lives of older adults.
