Australian dementia care specialists, Dementia Care International, gave a presentation recently to the Care Provider Alliance at which they described their Spark of Life Model of Care, and accompanying Zoom-based 3-week Master Leadership Program, 2-week Executive Leadership Program and Continuous Expert Support Program.

The Spark of Life Model enables an organisation to implement and embed the Spark of Life Philosophy across all service pathways and is implemented through its certified in-house Master Practitioners (rule of thumb 1 per 100 residents).

The Spark of Life Model of Care is based on scientific and humanistic theoretical foundations, grounded in clinical practice, thoroughly researched and field tested on five continents, and can be adopted by people of all cultural backgrounds and all levels of English comprehension. It is a best practice model of care, meeting the WHO definition of best practice.

The Spark of Life model is intended to deliver outstanding health outcomes for people with dementia, elevate care practices and heighten staff satisfaction.

The model consists of:

  • Part 1. The Spark of Life Philosophy.
  • Part 2. The Spark of Life Quality Management System.
  • Part 3. The onsite implementing Spark of Life Master Practitioners for sustainability.

To implement the Model, organisations need to:

  • Take an executive decision, driven by the CEO and Executive Team.
  • Choose who will undertake the Master Practitioner training to lead implementation internally.
  • Choose who, from the Executive Team, will take the 2-week Executive training.

There is more about the Zoom-based training, which is provided via Zoom in Northern and Southern Hemisphere Time Zones, and fee structure in the accompanying brochure, and online.

Other training options, including a rehabilitative programme and one-day seminars and training for groups of people, are described under Dementia Care International's Education drop down.
