More than 300 people attended the See, Hear & Dementia Information Day at Theatre Severn in Shrewsbury on Tuesday 20th May, an inclusive and impactful event designed to support individuals affected by dementia, sight loss or hearing loss, as well as their families and unpaid carers.

The event was organised through a collaborative partnership between Radfield Home Care Shrewsbury & Oswestry, Sight Loss Shropshire, and Community Resource, bringing together over 70 local and national organisations under one roof to offer advice, information and compassionate support.

The Mayor of Shrewsbury, Alex Wagner, chose the occasion as one of his first public appearances since taking office. He said:

“It’s been brilliant to be here at the event today. It’s genuinely inspiring seeing all the groups that have been brought together.”

This was the first time the three organisations had collaborated on an event of this scale, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for the community to connect with specialist support services.

Karen Corcoran, Operations Manager at Radfield Home Care Shrewsbury & Oswestry, said:

“It was a fantastic opportunity for three organisations to work together to support the people of Shropshire. The energy in the room was incredible, people felt informed, listened to and supported.”

From professional advice and assistive technology to dementia resources and sensory tools, the event highlighted the importance of co-ordinated, holistic care. The diversity of stallholders demonstrated just how many different needs people may experience when living with sensory or cognitive challenges.

The event was free to attend and open to all, offering a unique opportunity for people to feel more empowered in understanding the support available across Shropshire. Whether someone was recently diagnosed, caring for a loved one, or living with ongoing sensory challenges, the day provided connection, insight and community.

The positive feedback from the day has already sparked early discussions around bringing the event back in 2026, continuing the momentum and building on this year’s success.
