Dementia Bus Training: A Powerful Learning Experience
Recently, our team took part in Dementia Bus training - an incredibly powerful and memorable learning experience focused on building empathy and understanding for people living with dementia.
The session was filled with learning, laughter and heartfelt conversations. More importantly, it offered a deeper insight into what daily life can feel like for someone affected by dementia, as well as the challenges faced by their families.
Seeing the World Through a Different Lens
The Dementia Bus uses immersive visual and audio experiences to simulate how dementia can affect perception, communication and everyday tasks. By stepping into this environment, participants gain a new perspective on how confusing, overwhelming and isolating the world can sometimes feel.
For many of our team, this was a moment of real reflection. It helped translate theory into lived experience and reinforced why empathy is such a vital part of high-quality dementia care.
Why Dementia Awareness Training Matters
Understanding dementia is essential for anyone involved in care. According to organisations such as Alzheimer’s Society, dementia affects not only memory, but also how people interpret their surroundings, communicate and respond to others.
Training like this helps care teams:
- Better understand the lived experience of dementia
- Communicate with greater patience and clarity
- Support families with empathy and reassurance
- Deliver care that feels calmer, safer and more person-centred
Turning Learning Into Better Care
At Ultima Care & Nursing, we believe great care starts with understanding. Dementia Bus training supports our wider commitment to continuous learning and improving care quality across Kent.
By investing in experiential training, we equip our carers, mentors and office teams with the insight needed to provide thoughtful, compassionate support. This ensures care is not only safe and effective, but also emotionally attuned to the people we support.
Supporting People Living With Dementia and Their Families
Living with dementia can be challenging, both for individuals and for those who support them. Training like this helps our teams recognise these challenges and respond with kindness, patience and respect.
Together, through learning and shared understanding, we continue to strengthen the way we support people living with dementia and their families.
