NHS staff to receive training on caring for Armed Forces staff and veterans

GPs, doctors, nurses, therapists and managers are to work with regional trainers to train NHS staff on identifying patients with an armed forces background.  Such patients can require specialised services for physical injuries sustained in service, as well as mental health support for conditions like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression. More information.

Flu jab SOS issued

NHS England has issued a flu jab SOS, warning that people should get protected now, as it is only a few weeks before the worst of the flu season. Flu vaccines are available for everyone aged 65 and over, under 65s in clinical risk groups, pregnant women, care home residents and carers, close contacts of those who are immunosuppressed, frontline social care workers, and health and social care staff as well as children. Book, change or cancel a free NHS flu vaccination at a pharmacy - NHS.

COVID-19 vaccination criteria

The COVID-19 vaccine is available this winter to people aged 75 and over, residents in care homes for older people and anyone aged 6 months and over who is immunosuppressed. Further details and booking arrangements are in A guide to the COVID-19 autumn vaccination - GOV.UK.  There is also technical guidance in the Green Book, page 32: Green book chapter - COVID-19.

Household Support Fund

The Household Support Fund provides help to vulnerable people with energy and water bills, food and essential items, including food vouchers. Councils run their own schemes, and set both eligibility criteria and how/where to apply. Check with a local council to find out what support is available.
