New figures show Scottish social services workforce is largest since reports began

 

A new report, published by the Scottish Social Services Council, shows the size of the social services workforce has risen to 206,400, an increase of 0.8% since 2018 and comprising approximately 7.8% of all Scottish employment.·

The three largest sub-sectors are housing support/care at home, care homes for adults and day care of children; which together make up almost 78% of the workforce. Housing support/care at home had the largest headcount in 2019, at 71350, with care homes for adults second at 53080.
