Immigration announcement - update

Yesterday, the Home Secretary provided an update on the timescales for the implementation of the immigration reforms announced in December (there was also further detail published in December which you can find here).

  • On 19 February, the Home Office will lay Immigration Rules which will remove the right for care workers and senior care workers to bring dependants, which will come into force on 11 March 2024. The rules will also mean that care providers in England will only be able to sponsor migrant workers if they are undertaking activities regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
  • The Immigration Rules that the Home Office intend to lay on 14 March will remove the 20% going rate discount for occupations on the Shortage Occupation List, as well as temporarily add any occupations as recommended by the MAC to the new Immigration Salary List. It is anticipated those changes will come into force on 4 April.

We will let members know as soon as we have further clarification on the salary threshold for careworkers going forwards.
