On Human Rights Day (10 December), the Five Nations Care Forum, of which we are members, wrote to the UK Government urging the full and active participation in drafting a new UN Convention on the Rights of Older Persons.
In a letter to the Minister for Human Rights, the Rt Hon Chris Elmore MP, Minister for Human Rights, we called for the UK to:
- Publicly support and fully engage in the drafting process.
- Centre the voices and lived experiences of older people.
- Recognise the expertise of social care providers in advancing human rights.
Older people face systemic barriers and discrimination that undermine their dignity. This convention presents a historic opportunity to establish a robust global framework protecting their rights.
