Care Team Steps Into Summer with Steps Challenge

The challenge was launched as a way to boost wellbeing and morale after the long winter months, the initiative has been a resounding success – not just with the team, but with clients too.
“Being a live-in carer often means working a pattern of two shifts in a day,” said Shami Jonson, Human Resources Manager at S&P Care Services. “We launched the step count challenge to encourage our team to stay active throughout the day – whether it’s getting in some steps during an afternoon break or choosing to walk between client visits. It was a fun, team-focused way to promote movement, mindfulness and overall wellbeing.”
The challenge ran from 14th April, with a winner crowned each week – and it’s safe to say the 32 participants went the extra mile. The highest weekly step count reached more than 100,000 steps, with a total of 10,113,872 steps logged by all team members over the course of the competition.
The overall step challenge champion contributed an impressive 1,234,376 steps to the overall score!
One of the most rewarding outcomes? Clients have been getting involved too. “Clients often asked our carers how the challenge was going and even suggested ways to add in extra steps – from doing a lap around the garden to taking a stroll around the house,” added Shami.
“One of our carers mentioned the challenge to a client living on a large farm, and his partner invited her to walk the grounds. It’s even got some carers thinking about walking between client visits when possible, rather than driving.”
While care work is deeply fulfilling, it can also be physically and emotionally demanding. The summer steps challenge was an impactful way for the team at S&P Care to support each other in looking after their own health and wellbeing while continuing to deliver compassionate, high-quality care.
