Tens of thousands of patients across England can now access diagnostic tests and scans out of hours and in their community, with 100 community diagnostic centres (CDCs) opening 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The Government said the centres are based in convenient settings closer to people’s homes, such as shopping centres, community hospitals and university campuses. With many of the centres also offering free parking. GPs or hospital-based clinical teams have the ability to refer patients to CDCs.
The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, the Rt Hon Wes Streeting MP, said: “From early morning MRI scans to late evening blood tests, we’re meeting patients where they need it most by extending the operating hours for community diagnostic centres and putting patients first.”
