Self isolation: changes in England today include fines, increased contact from Test and Trace and eligibility for £500 isolation payment for those on a low income

The changes to self-isolation announced last week will be taking effect in England today. This means self isolation will now be a legal obligation.

These include:

  • Fines for breaking self-isolation which start at £1,000 but could be up to £10,000 for the most significant offences.
  • Fines for businesses who allow or encourage staff to work when they should be self-isolating.
  • NHS Test and Trace will be increasing call contact with those self-isolating.
  • Those who work but are on a low income and in receipt of benefits may be eligible for a £500 isolation payment from today. This will be available from Local Authorities.
