The changes to self-isolation announced last week will be taking effect in England today. This means self isolation will now be a legal obligation.
These include:
- Fines for breaking self-isolation which start at £1,000 but could be up to £10,000 for the most significant offences.
- Fines for businesses who allow or encourage staff to work when they should be self-isolating.
- NHS Test and Trace will be increasing call contact with those self-isolating.
- Those who work but are on a low income and in receipt of benefits may be eligible for a £500 isolation payment from today. This will be available from Local Authorities.
