In a new analysis of family carers policy in England, the Nuffield Trust has found that, despite numerous Government proposals on improving support for family carers and a likely rise in their numbers, there has been a 13,000 drop in the numbers of carers receiving direct support from their local authority, falling from 121,000 in 2015/16 to 108,000 in 2020/21.
The think tank found that, at the same time, respite and breaks for family carers has dropped by 42% and local authority funding for carers by 11%.
