Report highlights data risks of staff using own phones for work

Digital Social Care commissioned research into how care sector employers were managing staff using their own mobile devices at work. The research shows high levels of people using their own devices in the homecare sector (53%) - and that this is largely driven by cost.

However, the report highlights that this can raise concerns about data security and protection and also about costs to employees (e.g for mobile data).

Only half of providers that had staff using their own phones had a "Bring Your Own Device" (BYOD) policy. Level of understanding is low and so the potential of data breaches may be high and unrecognised.

Digital Social Care (an organisation that was set up by care provider associations, including the Homecare Association) will be launching a Bring Your Own Device policy builder and will be doing a demonstration of this next week at the Care Show with a webinar on 14 October at 2pm (you can the webinar here).
