Priority groups for COVID-19 vaccination - JCVI advice

Advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) is that health and social care staff should be the first priorities for any COVID-19 vaccination programme. Next will be those at increased risk of hospitalisation and increased risk of exposure.

The Committee reviewed safety and efficacy data for the Pfizer BioNTech mRNA vaccine which they say appears to be safe and well-tolerated, with no clinically concerning safety observations.

The data reviewed by JCVI show high efficacy in all age groups (16 years and over), including encouraging results in older adults.
