The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has published interim guidance on the prevention and management of Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI), replacing the 2008 guidance on the subject.

An expert group convened by UKHSA met in March 2025 to review and update the 2008 guidance, removing outdated information and adding links to current standards. The new document retains text from the original guidance where it remains relevant or provides important historical context.

The guidance targets health and social care professionals and managers in England involved in CDI prevention, control and outbreak management.

A full review of CDI management and prevention is under way, with new guidance expected in 2027.
