Local lockdowns in England: update

The local lockdown in Leicester has eased slightly with some additional business venues being allowed to open (see details here). This will next be reviewed on 31st August.

In the North of England, additional measures have been agreed in Oldham, Pendle and Blackburn. These will include guidance, applicable from midnight on Saturday, to avoid public transport and to avoid socialising with anyone from outside your household. The restrictions will not apply in Wigan, Darwen and Rossendale, where restrictions will be lifted from 26 August. The existing restrictions will continue unchanged in other parts of Greater Manchester and East Lancashire.

Birmingham has been designated an area of enhanced support - meaning increased community engagement and additional testing. Birmingham City Council have restricted non-essential visits to care homes (see further information here).

In Northampton, workers associated with a particular factory are being asked to isolate for 2 weeks after a significant outbreak (guidance available here).
