The Homecare Association welcomes the government's announcement of an additional £50 million for the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG), which will enable more older people and people with disabilities to adapt their homes and live independently.
While this funding represents a positive step, it addresses only one element of the far broader challenges facing adult social care. Our Homecare Deficit Report shows the homecare sector faces a £3.25 billion funding deficit, severe workforce shortages and unsustainable commissioned rates that leave providers unable to meet the growing demand for care.
Dr Jane Townson OBE, Chief Executive of the Homecare Association, said:
"We welcome any investment that helps people live independently and with dignity in their own homes. Home adaptations can make a profound difference to individuals and families, and this funding will support more people in making essential changes.
"However, we must be clear about the scale of the challenge facing adult social care. Meaningful reform requires funding on a completely different scale. Until we see funding that matches the scale of the challenges, adaptations alone cannot solve the obstacles facing those who need care and support."
