The Department for Work and Pensions has opened a formal call for evidence as part of the Timms Review into Personal Independence Payment (PIP), the non-means tested benefit that supports people with the extra costs of a disability or long-term health condition.

The review is seeking views from disabled people, carers, clinicians, MPs, campaign groups and other stakeholders. Importantly, it will consider the assessment criteria for Mobility and Daily Living elements of PIP – including activities, descriptors and associated points – and whether these effectively capture the impact of long-term health conditions and disability. The review will also examine whether PIP is meeting its intended purpose, people’s experience of claiming and the changing environment since 2013, when it was introduced.

The call for evidence is open until 28 May 2026 and available in accessible formats, including British Sign Language, Easy Read, audio, Braille, large print and Welsh. PIP applies in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland - a separate scheme applies in Scotland.
