COVID-19 alert level moves from 3 to 4

As the number of coronavirus cases are increasing in significant parts of the UK, the Joint Biosecurity Centre has recommended the COVID-19 alert level should move from Level 3 (epidemic is in general circulation) to Level 4 (epidemic is in general circulation; transmission is high or rising exponentially).

The CMOs for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have recommended all four nations of the UK should move to Level 4.

The higher the level, the stricter measures the Government is likely to impose to address the issue.
