Community Champions to give vaccine advice and boost take up

A system of Community Champions is being set up to provide advice on COVID-19 vaccination to boost take up in groups such as older people, disabled people, and people from ethnic minority backgrounds who are most at risk.

Over £23 million funding has been allocated to 60 councils and voluntary groups in England to deliver the scheme, which aims to build trust in communities where there is vaccine scepticism.

Councils will develop their own plans to improve communication with these groups, while Community Champions will tap into local networks to provide advice, identify barriers and provide tailored support.
