Wales news round up June 2025

The Welsh Government have raised concerns that the UK Government have not allocated sufficient funding to them to cover the increased employers National Insurance Contribution costs for public sector employees. Meanwhile, no funding has been allocated to cover the cost of employers National Insurance Contributions for social care purchased by the public sector.

Care Inspectorate Wales have published their strategic plan. Key objectives identified include:

  • focusing their work on people's quality of life and their experience of care
  • providing high-quality, accessible information about their findings
  • developing a diverse, empowered and resilient workforce
  • increasing their visibility to ensure people know what they do and how they can help
  • working collaboratively with partners to share intelligence and improve outcomes

Social Care Wales have launched a new resource for careworkers who are new to working in social care in Wales.

The winners of the 2025 Accolades have been announced! Congratulations to all the winners and those who were shortlisted.

Social Care Wales have released a report which raises concerns about discrimination against Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic workers in social care in Wales. Despite a desire to progress, workers from minority ethnicities are less likely to be represented in leadership roles. They are also more likely to experience discrimination, abuse and fitness to practice proceedings. Social Care Wales are launching a new programme to support the progression of staff from minority ethnicities.
