The Homecare Association welcomes TEC alliance report

The TEC Action Alliance has published a new report: "Implementing TEC so we can all live gloriously ordinary lives." This action paper is a significant step towards understanding and implementing what people truly want and need from technology-enabled care (TEC).

Homecare Association CEO, Dr Jane Townson OBE said:

“The Homecare Association strongly welcomes this insightful and comprehensive report from the TEC Action Alliance. By harnessing the potential of technology enabled care (TEC), we have an exciting opportunity to support people to live well at home for longer, maintaining their independence and quality of life.

This report provides a clear roadmap for expanding access to TEC beyond those with acute needs, reaching the broader population who could benefit from proactive, preventative support to manage their health and wellbeing at home. Critically, it puts the voice of people and their desires front and centre.

We are particularly pleased to see the emphasis on providing familiar, seamless, and easy-to-use technologies that fit into people's lives and work in an integrated way with their existing devices. This person-led approach, combined with a new common language for describing TEC functions, will make it much easier for people and families to navigate their options and access the right solutions for their needs.

The homecare sector has a vital role to play in this vision. By equipping our care workers with the skills and confidence to support the use of TEC as part of homecare services, we can amplify the benefits for those we care for. The proposed collaboration between TEC suppliers, commissioners, and homecare providers to develop new service models is an important step.

We urge national government, local authorities, the NHS, and the TEC sector to take forward the sensible recommendations in this report. By working together to expand access to TEC and build the evidence base for its impact, we can enable many more people to live gloriously ordinary lives in the place they call home. The Homecare Association and our members stand ready to play our part in realising this vision”.
