Revision to the Accessible Information Standard
The Accessible Information Standard helps ensure that people who are disabled or have a sensory impairment are able to access and understand information about health and social care services.
Adult Social Care providers who provide publicly funded care should comply with the Standard,
The Standard was published in 2016, so it should be familiar to most care providers. However, it has just been revised and updated. We recommend that providers re-familiarise themselves with the Standard to make sure that they comply.
Updates include:
- Aligning with legal changes that have happened since 2016 and brought into alignment with CQC standards
- Aligned with best practice and with learning from COVID-19
- Added a new sixth 'review stage'
- Clarified responsibilities and updated the structure and language to make it easier to understand and implement
- Introduced a new Accessible Information Standard self-assessment framework to support with compliance
- updated the standard’s reference number from DCB1605 to DAPB1605
