Regular testing of care at home workers in Scotland - guidance and webinars

New guidance and materials have been issued to support testing of staff working in community based care services in Scotland, which commenced from 18 January. Distribution of kits is currently underway. The guidance states the arrangements for care at home services is as follows:

Test method

LFD or PCR - Because of the diverse nature of care at home services some services will use LFD tests while others will use PCR. LFD - twice weekly test with follow up PCR test if LFD is positive. PCR - once weekly.

Delivery

Lateral flow (LFD) testing kits will be provided via the Health and Social Care Partnership or direct to the individual provider. Arrangements will differ depending on the mechanisms each Health and Social Care Partnership has put in place to roll out testing.

UKHCA understands PCR testing will be used for adult care at home staff who provide personal care services/close support (supported living) and who are typically highly mobile and travel extensively, who work with multiple clients and have no fixed base/hub, with lateral flow tests used for less mobile, smaller client group services like sheltered housing or supported accommodation.
