Proposed plans to update the NHS Constitution for England would introduce new rapid reviews for patients from outside the care team if the patient is deteriorating.

The update would also better recognise the role of NHS volunteers, put patients and their families, carers and advocates at the heart of decision making and strengthen links between NHS services.

Changes would include accommodating requests for same-sex intimate care and respecting single sex wards.

This consultation is part of the process to complete the 10 year review of the Constitution, as legislated for in the Health Act 2009.
