The Professional Records Standards Body has issued a new Nursing Care Needs Standard, which aims to improve the quality and safety of care in key nurse-led areas, including care planning.
The standard reflects best practice and standardises documentation across different nursing settings, to help avoid patients having to repeat their story, and is focused on eating and drinking, mobility, elimination (toileting and continence), personal hygiene and dressing, skin, and medication self-management.
‘Must haves’ for the standard will also be developed.
The care settings in scope are hospital, community and nursing home.
