Making flexible working the default

Should the right to request flexible working apply from day one? Consultation closes 1 December 2021.

The Government has published its consultation on flexible working which proposes making the Right to Request Flexible Working a right from day one of employment, rather than after 26 weeks.

The policy aim is to make flexible working the default by supporting genuine, two-sided flexibility, with a starting point to encourage a better discussion between employee and employer – rather than one side imposing certain ways of working on the other, or rejecting them.
