Low Pay Commission seeks evidence on minimum wage impacts

The government has asked the Low Pay Commission (LPC) to recommend minimum wage rates for April 2027. To inform these recommendations, the LPC has opened a consultation and is inviting written submissions from employers, workers, and representative organisations.

The consultation asks for evidence on the impact of recent minimum wage increases on employers and workers, as well as views on current economic and labour market conditions. The LPC also wants to understand the specific effects of the rates themselves on businesses and the people they employ.

You do not need to answer every question. Respondents should focus on the areas most relevant to them and where they can provide the strongest evidence. You do not need to address every question in the consultation.

The LPC has produced shortened versions of the consultation designed specifically for individual employers and workers. These are available on the LPC's online consultation platform.

Minimum wage increases have a direct and significant impact on homecare providers, particularly where fee rates from commissioners fail to keep pace. Submitting evidence gives the sector a voice in shaping next year's rates. The Homecare Association encourages members to respond and will also submit evidence on behalf of the sector.

You can find the consultation here. Respond by 26 June 2026.
