From 1 April 2024, the minimum wage will be increased to £11.44 for those over 21 years old. There are also adjustments for other age groups. This represents a 10% increase from last year.

The Low Pay Commission is organising a series of visits around the UK, to ask care providers about their experiences of the impact of minimum wages on their businesses. In particular, the Commissioners would like to understand how businesses are responding to the rising NMW and if the rates have impacted business planning.

Dates and locations for this year include:

17-18 April Dover
15-16 May Cardiff/ Newport
12-13 June  North Ayrshire and Glasgow
3-4 July  Bangor
31 July- 1 August Coventry/ Wolverhampton

Meetings will last between 45 mins to an hour and the oral evidence given by providers will be collated by the LPC, together with research statistics, to inform the Commission’s annual minimum wage recommendations to the government. All feedback will be anonymised.

The LPC’s next stop is in Dover on Wednesday 17 & Thursday 18 April. On 18 April the LPC has offered to meet with Homecare Association members, either at members’ premises or at the LPC’s hotel.

If you’d like to participate, you can email the LPC at [email protected] or call on 07511 162 380.
