Legislation for new licensing scheme for supported housing receives Royal Assent
The Supported Housing (Regulatory Oversight) Act 2023 has received Royal Assent. This arose from a Private Members Bill following concerns about exempt accommodation (which is exempt from certain Housing Benefit provisions which limit claimants’ entitlement to defined local levels). The Bill will give Councils powers to license supported housing in their areas. Local Authorities will also be expected to have supported housing strategies for their localities.
We are anticipating further consultation on the details of this in October, for full implementation in 2025.
