Homecare Association response to Social Care Wales Registration Consultation

Social Care Wales have been consulting on the introduction of a competency based assessment as a route to registration. Consideration has also been given toreducing the CPD requirement and moving towards an outcomes-focused approach to CPD.

The Homecare Association response is available below. We would welcome the reduction in CPD hours, as there are long-standing concerns that the 90 hour requirement feels disproportionate for part-time staff. While a competency based assessment and outcomes-focused CPD may sound attractive, it is difficult to fully assess the operational implications of these proposals without knowing more detail about what would be required from managers to implement these proposals.
