IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Homecare Association welcomes the new publication from the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), which highlights the economic case for investing in nursing ahead of the Budget.
The RCN’s calls for investment directly supports the government’s shift from hospital to community, outlined in the NHS Ten-Year Health Plan. The RCN argues that prioritising nursing investment will strengthen community services, enable more people to receive care at home and reduce pressure on acute hospital settings
In response, Chief Executive of the Homecare Association, Dr Jane Townson OBE, said:
“The Royal College of Nursing’s analysis reinforces what those of us in homecare have been saying for years - investing in the wider nursing workforce is not a cost, but an economic necessity. You cannot shift care safely from hospitals into communities without properly funding homecare and community nursing.
“Every day, we see delayed discharges and avoidable distress because support at home is overstretched. If government is serious about productivity, prevention and reducing pressure on the NHS, it must back its ambitions with realistic investment in homecare, delegated healthcare tasks, and a sustainable workforce plan. The prize is healthier communities, reduced hospital demand and better lives for the people we all serve.”
