The Care Quality Commission has published its analysis of 143 local authority assessments carried out between December 2023 and summer 2026. The report finds that 60% of local authorities are rated good, but a third require improvement, and CQC identifies stark and unwarranted variation in commissioning, prevention, safeguarding and unpaid carer support across England.
For homecare, the most significant findings concern commissioning. CQC found that inconsistent fee-setting, failure to account for workforce pressures and weak provider engagement are directly constraining the quality and sustainability of services, findings that reflect what our members tell us every day and that are consistent with the evidence set out in our own reports on CQC performance.
