The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has announced that Baroness Julia Neuberger DBE will become its new Chair from 1 October 2026. Baroness Neuberger brings significant leadership experience from across health and care, including previous roles chairing University College London Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Whittington Hospital NHS Trust, as well as serving as Chief Executive of The King's Fund.

Welcoming the appointment, CQC said Baroness Neuberger's experience will support the organisation's ongoing work to strengthen its role as an effective and trusted regulator. In her response, she highlighted the importance of listening to people who draw on care and support, providers, staff and the wider public, and said her priority would be to build confidence in the organisation while supporting improvement across health and social care.
