New Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman appointed

Amerdeep Somal has been appointed as England’s new Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities. Ms Somal will take up the post on 1 February 2024. Learn more here.


Home Care Research Forum – 14 February 2024, 2- 4 pm

The NIHR Health & Social Care Workforce Research Unit is holding a Home Care Research Forum at which Dr Deborah Chinn (Senior Lecturer in Intellectual Disabilities, King's College London), will discuss ‘What helps you feel at home where you live’?  Exploring the concept of ‘homeliness’ with housemates with learning disabilities living in staffed group homes, their families and support staff. Then Helen Moores-Poole (Speech and Language Therapist and Clinical Doctoral Candidate, University of Stirling), will speak on What are the experiences of Home Care staff when supporting older adults with speech or swallowing difficulties, how can we help and what can we learn from these? Attendance is online, free and open to all with an interest in homecare research. Government tweaks statutory paternity leave provisions

Anthony Collins Solicitors have published a blog on the draft Paternity Leave (Amendment) Regulations 2024, which change statutory paternity leave provisions and will warrant changes to handbooks/policies. The new provisions apply where the expected week of birth or expected date of placement for adoption (or entry into the UK for adoption is after 6th April 2024, so employers will want to take action very shortly. Rebalancing Health and Social Care Experience in the Pre-Registration Nursing Curriculum

The next CRED webinar is on Rebalancing Health and Social Care Experience in the Pre-Registration Nursing Curriculum on 12 February 2024, from 15:00 – 16:00. This will look at student nurse placements in social care and a model developed by the University of Chester of an innovative indirect practice supervision/ assessment model, which supports the development of social care-focused practice placements.
